Arkansas Razorbacks Experience Another Defeat in Pine Bluff
Razorbacks Fall Short Against University of Arkansas Pine Bluff
Golden Lions Score Upset Win Over SEC Foe
Arkansas Razorbacks football suffered a stunning defeat on Saturday, September 2, 2023, falling to the University of Arkansas Pine Bluff (UAPB) Golden Lions 31-24.
The loss marks the first time in school history that the Razorbacks have lost to a Football Championship Series (FCS) opponent.
UAPB, a member of the Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC), entered the game as a heavy underdog.
Golden Lions Dominate on the Ground
The Golden Lions controlled the game on the ground, rushing for 263 yards and three touchdowns.
- Running back Kayvon Britten led the way with 121 yards and two touchdowns on 18 carries.
- Quarterback Skyler Perry added 98 yards rushing and a touchdown.
Arkansas, on the other hand, struggled to get their running game going, gaining just 75 yards on the ground.
Defense Fails to Hold
The Razorbacks defense, which had been a strength in recent weeks, failed to hold the Golden Lions in check.
- UAPB converted 10 of 19 third downs and 2 of 3 fourth downs.
- The Golden Lions also scored touchdowns on two of their three red zone opportunities.
Arkansas, meanwhile, converted just 5 of 15 third downs and 0 of 2 fourth downs.
Upset Loss Raises Questions
The loss to UAPB raises questions about the state of the Arkansas Razorbacks football program.
- The Razorbacks are now 2-2 on the season with losses to both FCS opponents they've faced.
- Head coach Sam Pittman is now 17-17 in his third season at Arkansas.
Arkansas will have a chance to bounce back next week when they host the Texas A&M Aggies in a non-conference matchup.
