Midnight Sun begins Solwezi exploration in hunt for Kansanshi feed
Solwezi, Zambia – 13th January, 2023
Australian-listed exploration company Midnight Sun Mining (ASX:MSM) has begun exploration at its Solwezi project in north-western Zambia, looking to identify new copper-gold resources to feed the nearby Kansanshi copper mine.
The Solwezi project is located approximately 10 kilometres south-west of Kansanshi mine, which is operated by First Quantum Minerals (FQM). Kansanshi is Zambia’s largest copper mine, producing 422,000 tonnes of copper in 2021.
Midnight Sun’s exploration program at Solwezi will include geological mapping, soil sampling and geophysical surveys. The company is targeting areas that have the potential to host copper-gold mineralisation similar to that found at Kansanshi.
“We are excited to begin exploration at the Solwezi project, which has the potential to host significant copper-gold resources,” said Midnight Sun Managing Director, Robert Ryan.
“The project is located in a highly prospective region, and we believe that our exploration program has the potential to identify new resources that could feed the nearby Kansanshi copper mine.”
Midnight Sun’s Solwezi project is part of the company’s broader strategy to explore for and develop copper-gold projects in Zambia. The company also has projects in the Copperbelt and North-Western provinces of Zambia.
Midnight Sun is a dual-listed company on the Australian Securities Exchange (ASX) and the Frankfurt Stock Exchange (FSE).
