Xander Schauffele Holds Off DeChambeau and Sets Major Record
Schauffele Wins 106th PGA Championship
DeChambeau and Hovland Fall Short
Xander Schauffele held off a charging Bryson DeChambeau to win the 106th PGA Championship on Sunday, setting a new major record in the process. Schauffele finished one shot clear of DeChambeau, with Viktor Hovland three strokes back in third.
DeChambeau and Hovland were both two back and started strong Sunday. DeChambeau birdied the first two holes and Hovland birdied the first, but Schauffele stayed close with a birdie on the second.
Schauffele took the lead for good with a birdie on the seventh hole. DeChambeau and Hovland both bogeyed the hole, giving Schauffele a two-shot lead.
Schauffele held on to his lead over the final 11 holes, making par on each of them. DeChambeau and Hovland made a few birdies, but they couldn't make up enough ground.
Schauffele's win is his first major championship. He is now the 10th player to have won the Masters, U.S. Open, and PGA Championship.
